Of Peruvian origins, Cecilia is a 2nd generation Italian who is using her studies as a fashion designer to re-establish ties with her family’s homeland. Her project centres on the old art of tapestry making, on the rapid hands of a now distant grandmother and textile manipulations. Contemporary art and, for this project, the influence of Urs Fisher’s work made her reflect on the idea of decay, destruction and rebirth.
Her clothes, almost artworks, are an incredible crescendo of distortions, layerings, tears and re-stitchings in which the manual element reflects her human approach and deep thinking about the contemporary.
To create the outfits dedicated to YKK I intend to use the zips they supplied as a sort of “glue” to stick together my tapestries: they’ll be essential to join together pieces made on the loom and modelled onto the body.
