THE FIFTH EDITION OF THE FASHION FILM FESTIVAL MILANO

THE FIFTH EDITION OF THE FASHION FILM FESTIVAL MILANO

This year marks the fifth edition of the Fashion Film Festival Milano, which was founded by its director Constanza Cavalli Etro. As always, there will be an impressive programme of events. The festival will run from September 20th to 25th at the Anteo Palazzo del Cinema. Entrance is entirely free, although participants must first register online.

Once again the Festival’s patrons are the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (the National Chamber of Italian Fashion) and the Municipality of Milan, while GREY GOOSE® is the main sponsor and Mini is a partner. Over the course of six days, there will be a full programme of films and related events. The official selection will feature 200 fashion films, chosen from over 800 projects in 50 countries. The curator is Gloria Maria Cappelletti who, together with the Festival’s Artistic Committee, made the official selection. The idea was to help both talented youngsters and established names, through an impartial “The big helps the small”.

As is the custom, the films will be judged by an international jury consisting of prominent personalities from the fashion, cinema and art worlds. Its members include Ana Lily Amirpour, film director who won the Special Jury Prize at the 2016 Venice Festival for her film The Bad Batch; Max Vadukul, internationally acclaimed British photographer whose work has appeared in The New Yorker and Rolling Stone; Bianca Balti, international top model; Umit Benan, Turkish fashion designer; Caroline Corbetta, contemporary art gallery curator, writer and arts journalist; Orsola de Castro, founder of Fashion Revolution and sustainable fashion activist; Paz Vega, actress who has been a jury member at prestigious film festivals such as Venice (in the “Horizons” section); Nicoletta Santoro, stylist and Creative Director at Large for the magazine Town&Country; Pablo Arroyo, creative director of L’Officiel Hommes France; Piera Detassis, artistic director of the Accademia David di Donatello and editor-in-chief of the magazine Ciak.

The 2018 edition of the Fashion Film Festival Milano will open on Thursday 20 September with the premiere of the documentary “McQueen”. As the title suggests, it is about the life of Alexander McQueen. The film’s directors, Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, will be present at the screening, as will Michael Nyman, who composed the film’s score. This particular event will be invitation only and a distinguished selection of guests will be there to celebrate the life of this great fashion visionary.

OFF CONTEST SPECIAL PROJECTS

The initiative #FFFMilanoForWomen will also play a prominent role this year, following on from its success in the 2017 edition. Once again the idea is to showcase talented women in the fashion, cinema and arts sectors, and this year the programme will feature some novelties. In addition to this, the biggest innovation is #FFFMilanoForGreen, a series of events designed to promote sustainable fashion. These events include the Italian premiere of the documentary RiverBlue and the first edition of the “Best Green Fashion Film” award. A number of prominent personalities from the world of sustainable fashion will take part in a conversation on the subject.
We will also be continuing our collaboration with the magazine Vogue Italia with the third edition of the much acclaimed “Through My Eyes” project. This year’s title is “Through My Eyes Episode 3 – Roots” and, as part of this, three film directors will be invited to tell the audience about their origins and to build a narrative around it.
