CNMI PUBLISHES GUIDELINES ON THE USE OF FUR DURING MILANO FASHION WEEK®️ SHOWS

Milan, 15th May 2026 - Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (CNMI) announces the release of its Voluntary Guidelines on the use of fur during Milano Fashion Week®️ shows starting with the September 2026 edition of the event.

In line with the commitment embraced by the Association in 2012 and the principles enshrined in its Sustainability Manifesto and Ethical Code, this initiative takes new legislation on animal welfare into account.

The Guidelines invite brands participating in the Milano Fashion Week®️ not to show, during the Milano Fashion Week®️ shows, any garments, accessories or other items made with animal fur as defined in the document.

CNMI is committed to not promoting fur in the direct production of its communication content.

In line with Italian and European legislation, the Guidelines in no way restrict brands’ creative or business autonomy, thus reflecting an international trend in which other fashion weeks have gradually been adopting policies and strategies on the use of fur.

CNMI has chosen an approach to evolution in its industry that is based on voluntary and shared guidelines, as is consistent with its status as an association. “The publication of these Guidelines is a further step in the drive for responsibility and sustainability that Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana has been carrying forward for over a decade now in support of Made in Italy.

This initiative reasserts CNMI’s determination to approach the evolution of the fashion industry with full awareness and a sense of balance in line with the strategies we already have in place,” said Carlo Capasa, Chairman Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana.

CNMI would like to thank LAV, Collective Fashion Justice, and Humane World for Animals for the positive and ongoing collaboration, particularly over the last three years. This collaboration is set to continue in the future, in line with the best sustainability practices.
