ALESSANDRO DI PIETRANTONIO - THE SKINNY BEEP

TheSkinnyBeep.com saw the light in September 2010 and for a long time it was a blog without an author: the true identity of this virtual character remained a secret until it was revealed that behind it was hidden the young Sicilian Alessandro Di Pietrantonio. With a photographer - always by his side – he timely follows all the events of the fashion system, in particular those organized by Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana by which he is accredited; so in a few days he will be at Milano Moda Uomo of which he will write a new and accurate report.

Generally blogs reserve much space to low-cost fashion or to a more democratic one, yours is different: you pay attention exclusively to the great names of prêt-à-porter; why this choice? Don’t you think you could be penalized?
The fact that low cost fashion does not appear, does not hide a snobbish choice towards this interesting phenomenon; it’s not a form of neglect. The only goal that I set for myself with this blog was to celebrate those great brands that are able to enchant, mark trends and create status symbols. I didn’t give much thought to what people could be more interested in, the doubt that this could penalize me never came to my mind. The important thing is that each blog creates his own area of credibility by placing much attention to its work.

How did you get the idea to start a blog? Where does the name TheSkinnyBeeep come from?
It all started while talking with Giuseppe, a computer engineer friend of mine, who is now the webmaster of the blog, we thought we could be able to combine our two passions given that the binomial fashion and technology appeared to be a winner; Beep is a fictional character who expresses contemporaneity, as everything that is virtual he does not grow old, never changes, to this name I added the term skinny which is a projection of myself into the character, something that unites us.

On TheSkinnyBeep the language of images prevails over the written one, who are the photographers you work with? How have you chosen them?
Over time I alternated working with three young photographers: Alexis Giannotti, Simone Rizzo and Loris Messina. First of all they are three friends of whom I have admired the passion towards photography, the fact that on the blog appear very high quality and original photos is an value added of which I am very proud of.

Do you think that fashion can have something to do with your future work? Which area are you more interested in, and in what role would you like to be part of it?

I've always been attracted by the world of public relations, in the work for the blog this is one of the aspects I like to cure most, I would not mind working in a press office, perhaps as a digital pr.

We are on the eve of Milano Moda Uomo, what do you expect from this busy schedule of events? What are the typical days of a fashion week?
Considering the delicate economic time we are going through, I hope that creativity will be at the service of wearability, this not a time for extravagance just for the sake of it; consumers want garments they can wear, but original and of quality. The typical days during the fashion week are very long: I get up early to go to the first show, then I go from one event  to the other - for this fortunately the CNMI provides a shuttles service that greatly facilitates the movements. In the evening, I need to work on  the material collected for the articles and often I end up working really late, but at the end it's an enjoyable effort.
