SIMONE NOBILI: INTERVIEW WITH THE ITALIAN TOP MODEL

He will turn 21 just during the Milano Moda Uomo.(click here to download the calendar). Simone Nobili is from Emilia. And he is ranked among the best top models in the world according to the acclaimed models.com ranking.
This season he is present in two hot campaigns: Givenchy and Dolce & Gabbana. Last season he pretty much showed on all the catwalks of Milan and Paris. Stylists and photographers are crazy about him. Even famous designers. Some say it is because of its extreme versatility. As a matter of fact, during the last months, we have  seen Nobili on many fashion magazine portraing just about everything: a boy with a street look, an elegant man, a classic Italian Latin lover or an aphebus of a northern Europe fairy tale. Discovered by a famous journalist from Milano, who introduced him to the agency Independent Men almost two years ago, Simone Nobili has made it. Yet, as you will read below, his goals in life are surprisingly far from climbing the career of modeling.

• You are the crown jewel of the agency INDEPENDENT MEN: are they good?
They are very good and I really like being in an agency so new, fresh and full of vigor. The other agencies that I have in London, Paris and New York are very strong, but obviously my agency in Milan is in my heart.

• From the start you have worked with big names and big brands, from Monica Bellucci to Giorgio Armani. Is there an encounter that impressed you in particular?

The first time I met Riccardo Tisci and Panos in Paris. Their energy, genius and the dark charge really struck me. They immediately believed in me.

• Before becoming a  model were you interested in fashion? Did it change the way you dress? How would you describe your look?

Before I knew nothing about fashion. Even now I'm not passionate about. I have changed the way I dress for many reasons, I must say I like it when designers let me keep their garments because it means that they really want me to wear them. But, as I said, I am not much interested in fashion itself, but in the talents and energy that is created when people work together. In this period, however, I want to try to dress with a clear idea that can express my taste, but boh ... who knows!

• The old saying "a healthy mind in healthy body", how do you manage to keep in shape both  physically and mentally between one work commitment and another?

Lately I have not dedicated much time to physical exercise. When I have some free time I devote my time to the theater, to reading and to the movies. My body is fine as it is,  now I prefer concentrating on my brain. Generally I am not very interested in the body, I prefer the mind, both mine and of others. It may sound stupid, but for me it is very important.

• What do you think makes you different from any other good looking guy and makes you a model?

Nothing. It wasn’t I who decided that stylists and photographers had to like me. Pure luck. I believe in emotions and psychological appearance. My work relies entirely on the body and this world makes us believe that physical appearance is everything. Wrong. Everyone should undertake  a mental growth, regardless of the outer appearance. There, I want to concentrate on this.

• You are in no doubt the Italian top model of the moment, there is no one like you. What do you think of our country?

Italy is an extraordinary country and I'm in love with it. In men's fashion, then we are definitely number one. For me it is an honor when in  Paris they call me  "l'italien".  I just hope that the difficult period we are experiencing as a country can be overcome thanks to the endless Italian talents, which perhaps should be better organized with each other ...

• What plans do you have for the future?

I'm studying acting and this is also helping me to feed the mind. Cinema is my passion and I want to cultivate it.

• So you will not have a future in fashion?

The fashion world is very interesting because of the strong emotions that it can manipulate, in this regard it is  very close to the cinema. But I'm interested in films and stories of interest. Who knows, maybe I can work to unite fashion and cinema! Only joking.........
