Fashion Deserves The World

This year saw the 2 nd Fashion Deserves the World, a project run by Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (CNMI) in collaboration with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and Mygrants. Originally launched on 20 June 2021, World Refugee Day, the project gives young migrants and refugees the chance to work in the luxury fashion sector whilst learning the necessary skills through free-of-charge training services. The focus of this edition was crafts and Made in Italy and the 15 participants were able to learn the skills required in the roles of tailor, pattern maker and embroiderer.

On completion of the CNMI training course, CNMI, UNHCR and Mygrants are committed to supporting the participants in the process of placement by referring their profiles to Italian businesses which are members of Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana. On the basis of their business requirements and of the candidates’ profiles, these companies will consider taking the participants on under internships or employment contracts.
The training course focused on the main areas of knowledge needed for working in the fashion industry, those regarding trends, fabrics, supply chain, manufacturing and crafts, distribution and sustainability. The final meeting to be held was a pattern-making and tailoring workshop at Afol Moda and Lineapelle, which enabled the trainees to learn more about the materials and techniques involved in artisanal creation of garments.

On this last occasion, a video was made to present the participants in this edition and their stories.
