Valentino, the "white night" in NY

It was a special night by Valentino, the night of Wednesday, Dec. 10th in New York. “Sala bianca 945” is the title of the haute-couture fashion-show with which the famous Italian fashion house celebrated the opening of its Fifth Avenue flagship store designed by David Chipperfield.

The 48 creations by creative directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli are a tribute to the history of the maison: in 1962, Valentino Garavani had presented the Collezione Sala Bianca in Florence; in 1968, on Rome’s via Gregoriana, he had brought on the catwalk the famous Sfilata Bianca. In the same years painter Robert Ryman would paint his vocabulary of white pictures, while in 1966 Marcel Breuer would inaugurate his building at 945 Madison Avenue, where last week the collection by the creative duo was cheered by the world’s fashion system in an enthusiastic standing ovation.

Furthermore, the celebration was the occasion to present the special collaboration between the fashion house and Fornasetti (whose exhibition has been hosted by the Whitney Museum), while a special capsule collection featuring the red heart symbolized the long love story between Valentino and New York, a story to which a new chapter has been added.
