Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, together with Centrobanca and Booz Allen Hamiton, on March 13th 2007, presented the conference “Italian Fashion Future. The Innovation of Operating Models”. The Board of Directors of CNMI considered it was convenient to order this research study as in the last few years we are seeing fast market changes that are causing modification in the Italian clothing and textiles sector. Some of the registered phenomena are: massive import of finished articles distributed through Large Organized Distribution Channels (GDO - Grandi Distribuzioni Organizzate), an aggressive development of Specialized Large Distribution Areas (GSS - Grandi Superfici Specializzate) which often offer products that are “copies” of fashion stylists, but have the benefit of an extremely effective and organized system. Even if high-class Pret-a-Porter is keeping its place of excellence into the market, these phenomena threaten to undermine the success of the brand Made in Italy, weakening, in particular, the strong link between textile production and clothing industry, and so in the medium-long term the whole system could be effected. The Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, with this study, intends to furnish its Associates with an operating instrument capable to identify a strategy and a series of actions and initiatives in order to maintain its excellent offer of high-class PaP, which represents the top product for CNMI Associates, utilizing the favourable aspects deriving from very effective logistic-organizing systems, i.e. Specialized Large Distribution Areas. This intent of the study is also to propose an Italian model which could enhance the value of our culture and our creativity, both aesthetically and functionally, using all the innovations as far as logistic and distribution areas are concerned. In order to give a push to the market, punctually and repeatedly, with the aim of reaching an intermediate price position between front line excellence and Large Distribution Areas for the product that we define as “the beautiful well done”, which is our pride, thanks to our textile industry, excellent Italian resource.
