MEENA

Meena is a Lagos based womenswear brand founded by Uju Offiah in 2011. The name Meena is an ode to the strength and beauty of the designer's mother who the brand is named after. The Meena design philosophy is based on modern femininity, architectonic undertones and confident minimalism. Since its debut collection titled 'Silver Shadow', Meena has focused on actualizing and innovating itself while staying true to its DNA of origami inspired details and sophisticated cuts. With the success of the Meena's Spring/Summer 2016 Collection titled 'Ochiagha' (an Ibo native meaning for the word 'Warrior'), Meena was tagged the highlight of the Lagos Fashion & Design Week 2016 by Daria Shapovalova in her article for American Vogue listing top 6 Standout Collections. Meena was also featured in the Africa Rising Story by Modelsdot USA. In February 2016, Meena was among the designers chosen to represent Nigeria at the International Fashion Show by British Council. Meena was also invited to the year long 'African Fashion City' Exhibition at the Royal Pavilion & Museums in Brighton England alongside other African Brands. Uju Offiah is the Founder & Artistic Director of Meena. A graduate of Law from the University of Nigeria Nsukka, and a member of the Nigerian Bar Association. Uju went in pursuit of her true passion - creativity and actualizing concepts hence the birth of Meena. Prior to her label launch, she did a brief internship programme with a Nigerian based womenswear designer, Ituen Basi.
