TAMARA DE LEMPICKA

Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana and Comune di Milano open their doors to the world of international fashion for the great retrospective exhibition of Tamara de Lempicka, on Friday 29th September, at Palazzo Reale. A charming, cosmopolitan woman, an Art Déco icon, an outstanding protagonist of the Twenties and Thirties, Tamara de Lempicka has become a symbol of her age, by portraying in her paintings unprejudiced, free and transgressive women surrounded by the symbols of modern times. Fashion is an integral part of her art -she draws fashion plates and magazine covers- as well as her life -with many pictures of shiny and eccentric dresses. Considering life as a work of art and supported by an iron will and a desire for success, Tamara develops her artistic talent and builds with care her image of an elegant and sophisticated woman, by transforming herself in the extravagant protagonist of European modernity. This homage to the artist and fashion presents an exclusive preview of 6 works. Many personalities are involved in the event: Major Letizia Moratti, Tiziana Maiolo Councillor to the Productive Activities, Vittorio Sgarbi Councillor to Culture, Massimiliano Orsatti Councillor to Tourism, Marketing, Identity and many designers who have already confirmed their presence. The exhibition, open from 5th October 2006 to 14th January 2007 by Gioia Mori, celebrates the Polish painter and will be hosted in Milan after the outstanding success met in London, Vienna and Paris.
